Pleasing low ceiling traditional interior, with a front section with old armchairs, while as you go further back there are a series of alcoves of various sizes, until you reach a rather unfurnished rear section and doors to a courtyard. The bar is to the right and watch your head on the low beams.
Three handpumps but just two working serving Twisted Oak Spun Gold and Sheriff Fatman (NBSS 3.5) .The barman was struggling to pull pints from either pump despite his dad having changed a barrel so service was very slow, but the beer tasted good.
Not very busy but maybe the lack of food on Sunday lunchtime played a part.Gay friendly without being in your face,a decent pub in the Old Market strip.

A good sized pub at the start of the Old Market strip, this has got a real cosy ambience to it and feels much more like a country inn than a city centre pub in a slightly edgier part of town. On top of that, the barmaid was very friendly, making a real effort to engage in some proper conversation, so first impressions were certainly good.

It’s quite a long pub with the bar counter about half way up on the right. There are plenty of old beams on the ceiling, as well as some chunky supporting timberwork. A partitioned area at the front creates a couple of snug type spaces, with dark wooden panelling on the lower part of the walls and pale yellow paintwork above. One of these had an old leather sofa and armchair whilst the other had a couple of church pews with the seating elsewhere mostly regular tables and chairs. Various other types of partition including one with glass panelling, another with balustrade and one forming a sort of arch shaped doorway broke the pub up in to several different areas. Besides the wood panelling, a couple of areas featured wallpaper including one with stencilled pink flamingos.

Beers on tap were both fairly local with Butcombe Original and Twisted Oak’s Spun Gold. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Haze and Ashton Press. All in all I was very impressed with this pub, and it’s certainly a much better bet than many of the rather rough and ready places nearby.

The Old Market Tavern is a decent looking pub that is named after the street it is on.
This pub is a Wadworth tied house so i was well pleased, once inside there is a long narrow room which runs to the rear, the floor is bare boarded, the seating is wood bench type on the left side, the rear area is up one step where there are normal tables and chairs.
There were three real ales on the bar all from Wadworths,i had a drink of Wadworth Henrys IPA which went down well, the other beers were 6X and Swordfish.
There was background music playing which was a good job as the pub was empty on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I quite liked this pub.
