I was stood at the entrance to the Nags head eeny-meeny-miny-moeing to try and decide whether to go through the left door into the lounge bar or right to the public bar. I plumped for the public bar, before realising that these areas have been knocked through anyway. There’s a bit of quaint seating under the leaded windows by the left hand door, but this pub is one room served by a central island bar. The televisions located throughout were airing muted House of Games and there was some background music playing.
The bar counter supports standard and premium keg and the nine handpumps were drawing Brains Bitter, SA Gold and Rev. James in addition to Bank’s Sunbeam and Pedigree. Food is available from the pub co menu, the burger is priced at £9.30. A Christmas tree by the entrance was advertising Christmas lunch, in September. The service wasn’t very friendly from the barmaid and the toilets were infested with flies and there was no soap in the dispenser. What looked like it was going to be a good visit ended up being very disappointing, which is a shame because this pub could be excellent.

A fairly standard Marstons pub. The open plan pub has a central island bar with seating surrounding it and an offshoot conservatory-like space to the left of the bar. 8 handpulls but only 3 doubled up beers (Bank's Sunbeam, Pedigree and Hobgoblin on) and a pull for real cider. Lots of Wales flags dangling above your head in case you've forgotten where you are.

Dating back to the 1660's The Royal Oak is an attractive looking pub from the outside with the smart interior a mixture of old and new, although was not that keen on the modern ceiling paneling. The pub has an island bar with 4 casks beers on plus the usual suspects. There were quite a few drinkers in on my visit but most of the customers were foodies.
