The Imperial is a single room pub with traditional décor, including a wood panelled rear wall with mirroring and stained glass above. Booth seating runs up the exposed brick left wall and banquettes across the rear. A beer shelf runs across the front of the pub and the bar counter is on the right wall where standard and premium keg is available. A muted television behind the bar was showing muted basketball. I found the service to be friendly and the pub comfortable, so I’d pop back in if passing.

Despite its pretty central location (just off St Enochs) and the fact this pub has been established in the city for generations, not many people seem to be aware of it existence which is a pity as its a good traditional pub with a lot of original features including 3 large stained glass windows, a couple of really nice large advertising mirrors (from the 30s/40s?) and what looks like original (Art Deco type) lamps throughout the pub that all add the the atmosphere of the place. The bar has had a recent change of management (thoguh not owners as far as I am aware) and it seems to have given the place a shot in the arm. On entering the pub there is a central bar area with ample booth type seating inside. Drinks wise it the usual selection of beers (sadly no real ales) such as Tennents, Guinness, McEwans, John Smiths, Bellhaven etc along with a nice selection of vodka, gin - they also have a good (but not stocked in depth ie the odd bottle) whiskey selection all att reasonable prices. The few times I have popped in during the week (usually heading straight back out) the bar has been very quiet, however Friday and especially Saturday (think its mostly alternative Saturdays) when they have a good DJ on (Ronnie) )playing everything from 50s-80's to Bowie, to rock to modern chart ) it can be busy (not mobbed) and a good night. The clientèle always seem really nice and are not cleeky will chat to you, weekends seem to consists of a mixture of core regulars and semi regulars with ages usually (well) over 40 with a few younger folk now finding the place, Bar staff are always nice (despite some other comments on other sites). No food and a poor selection of snacks (crisps, nut) is the only downside to me - a great wee bar maybe not too spend the entire night but certainly good for a nice pint a chat and to listen to the DJ on Saturday. Well worth a visit.

David Ross left this review about Imperial Bar

One of the ever decreasing number of old fashioned Glasgow pubs in the city centre, this is a pleasant relief from the over-modern establishments which predominate in the area. The Imperial has retained the same name ever since I can remember and has interesting stained glass windows and an impressive gantry behind the semi-circular bar. Not cheap, at £3.15 for a pint of Guinness, but it has a proper pub atmosphere, with no music to be heard and the TV on at a low volume.
