The Globe is a music themed Greene King pub situated in the back streets but just a few minutes walk from Union Street.
The large, spacious interior has been stripped of carpets leaving the tiling near the doorways a bit isolated and the rooms have been knocked through giving it quite a cavernous and basic feel although there are some ornate touches, notably the glass ceiling centrepiece.
There are numerous musical instruments plastered around the walls in keeping with its theme. An upright piano stands in one corner although music of a more robust format takes place on most Fridays and Saturdays when the live music takes over, usually rock and indie although they also have open mic evenings. I noted 4 TVs that were tuned to Sky Sports News and there were various World Cup flags on show (but not England!). At the rear is a pleasant beer patio with musical themed murals although it should be noted that the garden shuts at 10pm.
The 4 hand pumps had a basic range of Greene King Ales (IPA, Abbott & Ruddles County) with one unused although I understand that they do have an occasional guest beer. The menu consisted of a reasonably extensive range of pub grub with prices between £6 and £13 although we didn’t eat here.
The Globe was certainly a decent, friendly enough pub with a certain amount of character but there are better pubs around for ales and if I found myself in Aberdeen again, I would probably only return if I fancied watching a live band.
