Featured in the 2023 Good Beer Guide, I was expecting a bit more from the Angel than I actually found. Three Tuns XXX was the only real ale on a Friday evening, despite the pub being reasonably busy.
There is a small drinking area at the front of the pub, where a number of elderly punters had gathered. The pub stretches quite a way back, with a fairly long bar on the right-hand side and a much bigger open-plan space to the rear with multiple TV screens showing sport. Even the gents toilets at the very back had their own TVs.
My XXX was drinkable, but I can see why this pub has dropped out of the latest Good Beer Guide. However, it seems head and shoulders above the Wellington on the same street (not listed on here for some reason). I took one look in there and continued to a curry house around the corner!

Tackiy cheap modernised pub, small bar to front and long bar area with garish decor. Lots of small children running around with their fathersm TV screens, games. Not friendly, their is real ale ut the quality is dire.
