Alan Winfield left this review about Martha's Ale House

Martha's Ale House is a stone built pub that is almost opposite the New Inn and just up from the Red Lion.
Once inside there is a single narrow oblong shaped room, the serving bar is in the narrower right side, the left side has comfortable bench seating on each side and a real fire on the go,this area is carpeted and more like a lounge.
I think there were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Cross Bay Nightfall which was quite a nice drink,i failed to note the other beer because i was chatting to a local about my pub crawl, there is a small separate pool room to the rear left.
The pub was quite busy on my late Saturday afternoon visit with a mixed and lively bunch making a the pub seem very nice and friendly.
This is the sort of pub i like to drink in,there was some good background music playing a really lively atmosphere.

Old Boots left this review about Martha's Ale House

Across the road from the church, the New Inn and the Red Lion, this is an old school decorated pub
with two fairly narrow rooms plus a pool room with a dart board to the back. I wouldn't get too excited about the name or décor it is not in the mould of similarly titled and decorated establishments. The range on the four pumps was John Smith's Cask, Fuller's Pride, a Hook Norton seasonal and a local micro, the beer condition left something to be desired as well. The counter is to the right in a room with a sloping floor, a number of machines, juke box and big screen. To the left is a sitting room with a decent old fire place, plain walls with the odd picture and another big screen. It looked like they hadn't finished clearing this room for the lunchtime session as an upsidedown stool sat on one benchseat, while a collection of crisp boxes and other junk sat on a table in the corner.
