Pleased to report that there’s no change inside (I was worried there’d been a refurb as the outside has been freshly painted a shade of baby poo brown). Cask-wise, it was 2x Tim Taylor and another I forgot to note (Pride, maybe?). Unfortunately the TT Golden Best hadn’t shifted and was a bit stale (NBSS 2) which was a real shame. Still, I like the feel of the place and I’ll call again next time I’m in town.

April 2018
A pub unchanged since what looks like a plush 70s refit; tudoresque beams both fake and real, pub carpet, red fabric banquettes and loads of brasses hanging from the ceiling. Some nautical ephemera, presumably because the Royal George was (I found out) a ship, the sister of HMS Victory, no less. Someone is busy with the Mr Sheen here, the place was spotless with well-polished tables you could see your reflection in. Three ales on; Doom Bar, Hop Back GFB and Fullers London Pride (very good shape) served-up by a bamboozled barman. We enjoyed our stop here and I’d be putting my head round the door next time in Salisbury. As mentioned below, a more adventurous ale choice would really make this one stand-out. 7.5

A very attractive low beamed pub, still abound with the brass nick nacks previously mentioned and the service remains friendly. Three beers were on, Pride and Doom Bar with a savior of Hopback GFB at a resonable £3.40 a pint. I just wish some of these pubs were a bit more adventurous in their beer selection, it seems to be a Salisbury affliction.

A nautical themed pub a long way from the sea, originally a 15th Century structure but named after HMS Victory's sister ship some time in the 19th Century. One of the beams in the current structure (there are a few of these on display) is reputed to come from that eponymous ship but that may just be local legend. It's a city pub that feels like a really good local. It has been recently re-carpeted and re-decorated and feels pleasant and well looked after. The single long bar offers decent beer and home cooked food at reasonable prices. There are far too many brass nick-nacks dotted around for my liking, and the quiz machine in the corner is irritating. Staff are friendly and the local CAMRA regularly uses the pub for meetings. Three ales on - I had a pint of GFB which really was on top form. A great venue for eating or drinking, and a worthy addition to any city crawl
