If it is real ale you are after, try the Amsterdam across the road first, then come into the Red Lion. I guarantee you will detect an upturn in quality. It's a very quaint lower bar area and I was obviously lucky with the barman who was able to list the qualities of the various real ales on offer. Also good to eat out in the garden area on a nice day if you stay upwind of the many smokers taking refuge here!.

Good all round pub with a nice selection of changing beers olny spoilt by the fact that the staff serving the beers know diddly squat about them and you can get the occasional bad one, otherwise very good.
