Will Larter left this review about Porter's Ale House

There were eight hand pumps at the time of my recent visit, but unfortunately due to time pressure (train to catch) I didn't note what was available. I had Allgates Challenger, and I seem to recall that there were others from this brewery on too. Not so far from the station as the Tavern on Church Street, though the latter just gets the edge for me.

Well at last it now earns it's title of an Ale house and real ale at that.
2 to 4 pumps in as many months with ambitions of 6. Granted it's not the place to take the wife for a romantic meal. (No food) It's not a pub that caters for the masses. It is friendly, no chav's allowed. Good wide ranging rock music at weekend. A good turn over on the pumps so it has an active ale drinking customer base and it is a freehouse. Well worth supporting and popping in to try. Especially at £1.80 a pint!!!! GOOD NEWS NOW UP TO 6 PUMPS

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Porter's Ale House

A proper beer-drinkers pub, nothing fancy - just a friendly welcome, an excellent choice of real ales and exactly the sort of interior one would expect from the name. The barman recommended the Lees 'Game On', and nice it was too. A local rock venue as well from the look of the many posters around the walls.
