A hotel bar, located in the far end of the massive Victorian Britannia Hotel. The building is in mixed coloured brick and has a nod to the Georgians, with its brick pilasters, pediments and rustication. The interior is, in general, a straight room in white, although the far end, where there is a pool table, is raised. There are a row of large mirrors that, with the laminate flooring, give a bit of a sterile feel to the place. There is a dart board and a nice wood surround fireplace to counter that a little. There are no real pictures on the walls and the TV was tuned to a music channel. They do food, but i didn't eat, in fact, i didn't drink - with no real ale and no keg MILD i opted for a coke, which was in fact the best drink i had had to that point, even at £1.55 for a half. The service was very good, the poor lad seemingly out of place as when the police arrived at the Spoons over the road, most of the clientele ran outside to watch and take the opportunity to have another fag. A forgetable place if you don't like fizz.

Stayed here for 3 nights over the August Bank holiday weekend, and although basically a hotel there is a public bar to the right of the building that is open all day, with a happy hour from 11am till 4pm where pints of Carlsberg and Tetley Smooth are £1-50p a pint and certainly dragged a few punters away from the Wetherspoons across the road. There is a dartboard,a pool table and an assortment of uncomfortable chairs and a shortage of atmosphere, but if you want a cheap afternoon pint this is the place.
