Horrified to drive past there last night and see it closed with metal shutters covering the windows. I have been told that it closed suddenly at the end on September.

This is an end terrace cottage-style Victorian pub, with a central entrance. The frontage is in half exposed brick, with sash windows and half red and white, with etched windows. It has a traditional look, with modern signage. Also has a nice beer patio area.

The interior has two rooms. There is a side snug which is now in white walls and ceiling, with a red carpet and old photos on the walls (the dart board and orangy coloured decor has now gone). The bar is a long room, with two parts (slight partition) and the serving bar to the right on entry part way down. The walls are a white artexy finish and wood panel, with a white ceiling and black cornice and a brick floor. It has traditional stools and tables and there is a nice fireplace. There was at least one TV, with the footy on and music was supplied by the same 'folky' kind of chap that seems to be here every time i visit - always worth listening to. The clientele were mixed and it was busy and the service was fine.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Banks's MILD and bitter on handpull, with Caledonian Flying Scotsman, which was decent.

It has had a little spruce-up since my last visit and looks a bit better. Always worth visiting as a really good solid pub. I would love to see another real ale here.
