Surprisingly large pub for its location, with the main bar stretching along the frontage, with a smaller room at the right-hand side with a dartboard and (presumably) another lounge that was in darkness beyond the counter. Simply furnished, plainly decorated and generally traditional, but the real fire was welcome on a winter evening (even if it was dominated by a large sports TV screen above). Four cask beers available from the bank of six handpumps: HPA and Butty Bach from Wye Valley, Hopback's Summer Lightning and an excellent Kinver Half Centurion (£3.70).

This is a back street locals pub that has made it into the 2019 Good Beer Guide, and I must admit I wondered where I was walking to from the 74 bus stop, but got a friendly welcome early afternoon today. Black Sheep Holy Grail, Pitchfork East Street Cream, Wye Valley HPA and Hobson's collaboration with Brew By Numbers Simcoe Chinook which was a great Black IPA. Sat outside in the beer garden where we were able to see the Bridge over the Tame enjoying the beer and sunshine.

This is a detached 1930s pub, which replaced an earlier and small pub on the same site. The pub is in a garish pink colour - even the chimney stacks. The pub is in a Georgian symmetrical style with two entrances (one used now), hipped roof and Dutch scrolled wings. There is a patio area. The interior has a couple of rooms served by a central island bar. The back room is the lounge and is in a mix of cream, brick and red patterned wallpaper. The front room is the bar, with a separate side area for darts. This room is in cream in general, with the serving bar in the same colour as the outside. There is a TV, which had general programmes on and the music was general and at a decent level. The service was friendly - the gaffer wandered over and said hello - and the place is busy enough with a mixed and friendly bunch of locals that chatted quite happily. Beer; usual tap stuff with Oakham Citra, Tring Fanny Ebbs, Hopback Summer Lightning and Wye Valley HPA (decent) on handpull. Garish it maybe, but it has been one of the friendliest experiences i have had in a while - i would definitely go back.
