In the process of redecoration on our visit and to our admiration the barmaid told us that herself and a pal were painting the pub themselves out of hours. Have to call again when it's complete. We also called in on a Friday afternoon and the pub was quite busy. There were 14 ales on handpump on this visit - straight away, I went for a pint of Bathams. Next moved onto the Plain Ales Sheep Dip and Tunnfield Stiperstones. This is an excellent pub, with other chatty drinkers.

A long standing GBG regular. If I was being diplomatic I would say it’s all about the ale here. A fairly long narrow pub offering 14 real ales. My first impression was that a touch of finishing plaster, a rub down with some sandpaper and a lick of paint would not have gone amiss. The telling thing though was how busy it was on a Friday lunchtime – standing room only - so it’s difficult to criticise somewhere that keeps so many customers happy.

Unspoilt 2011 Good Beer Guide pub with a great range of real ales on offer. Looks a little shabby but always a warm welcome, and it is a drinkers pub. Enjoyed Ossett South Pacific IPA and Cuerden Pale this visit. Also has draught Belgian beers.
