A large and very smart pub. The Victorian exterior belies a modern interior. Open plan and sort of J-shaped with a central bar. 6 handpumps on the bar with 3 Backyard beers (Blonde, Antipodean and Subversion), Doom Bore, Belhaven Grand Slam and Butty Bach being your choice today. The area to the back has U-shaped sofa-like seats and beyond that is a beer garden. Pleasant enough though a bit corporate.

A nice detached late Victorian Marston's pub/eatery, in undressed brick and a patio at the back.

The interior is open plan, roughly U-shape around the bar, but with a drinking area and a foody area. The drinking area is to the right on entry and is in cream, with part chess-board floor, with a dart board and TV - which had the cricket on. The foody area opens out straight ahead of the entrance. It is in red, cream and salmony colour, some wood panel and with the usual value meals - i didn't eat so cant comment on that. There is a TV, a couple of old photos along with some arty pictures. The service was fine, the clientele mixed and not just diners, the music general and at a decent level.

Beer; tap stuff, with Jennings Cumberland Ale, Marston's Burton Bitter and Brakspear Oxford Gold. The Burton bitter was well kept, but it is pretty dull as a drink.

A bod standard place really. Nothing to go out of your way for.
