A little terraced 1960s looking Holden’s pub, with etched windows and black paintwork, with a rear beer patio. The actual name is The Royal Exchange, I believe.
The interior is more or less a straight room down past the brick and wood panel serving bar that is to the left on entry, culminating in an area where the musicians set-up and play. The décor is a mix of red wood panel, wood panel, cream wood panel and a green wood panelled ceiling, with a mix of red tile and carpet flooring. It is an education in jazz and music, with all kinds of memorabilia, instruments, photographs and ornaments decorating the place and lots of old tickets and things stuck to the walls. Even if you are not a jazz fan, its impressive. There is no TV and the music (piped) was easy Neil Diamond stuff. The live music sessions are not just jazz. I can take or leave jazz, on one visit they hit the spot for me with a great rendition of 'A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square'. The service is great and the clientele whilst mainly more mature, also attracts music and CAMRA people of all ages.
Beer; I loved the fact that other than one C***ling tap and a cider, the rest is Holdens, a quality local brewery. The MILD is my personal favourite, but their bitter, Golden Glow and Special are all served, as well as the Holden’s guest ales. The beer was of course excellent.
Still a beacon in Bilston.

Excellent, safe, local boozer that serves the full range of Holden's Beers. If you love your jazz you've died and gone to heaven here! Even the landlord gets up to play on occasions. Friendly staff. Does do cobs. Bit pricier for beer than at other Holden's beers but this should NOT in any way deter anyone from coming - I would recommend this pub to my family and friends ANY DAY!

A unique little jazz pub with good holdens beer. Even if you don't like jazz well worth a visit just for the atmosphere and experience
