Very close to the station and right by the canal, the Kings Head is handy if you're travelling and with a decent canal side garden an attractive summer spot.
Our visit was deep into Autumn so it was inside for us which had just been completely refurbished. It all felt very new with the unmistakable hint of wet paint. No complaints as it's been done reasonably with distinct bar and lounge/dining areas which feel very much suited to purpose.
We had lunch and the food was decent and good value with friendly and, unusually, table service.
Beers on were Tribute, Hobgoblin Gold and Bass the latter of which was good and went down well.
I'd guess that the Bass is a fixture and one I'd gladly return for.

ORIGINAL REVIEW May 2011.
A rather plain building situated at the northern tip of the town,The Kings Head has a focus on value food, offered throughout the day including a Sunday roast. The interior has a lounge feel and the semi circular bar is split in two by a double aspect brick fireplace. There are bookcases full of novels ,and the sofas give the feel of drinking in someones front room, although there is an alcove beyond the bar housing a pool table.Musak was very contemporary and a little loud for my liking.
There were four handpumps, but only two ales on my visit in Abbott and a very well kept Bass,at £2.90, justifying my trip.
There is a large paved garden area with pleasant views over the Coventry Canal and a less pleasing view of the A5 bypass bridge.

UPDATE
Reopened very recently after a smart refurb, thoughtfully two distinct areas are marked by a sign, the bar area has a wooden floor,a very good darts throw and an interesting wall mural about the town, while the otherside of a pillar containing fireplaces is a dining area ,along with two banquettes in a side alcove. The food was wholesome and very keenly priced with table service and a most friendly welcome. The bar sports three handpumps Hobgoblin Gold,St Austell Tribute and a very decent Bass being available on my trip. With Punch ownership the ale selection will most likely be national brands ,but the quality of both my pint and food would encourage me to visit again. An upgrade is in order.

Alan Winfield left this review about The King's Head

The Kings Head is a strange looking pub in my opinion, the pub is situated quite close to the train station but is hidden away from it,turn left out of the station and go under the train bridge and you will soon see it.

Once inside there is a single oblong shaped room with a small bar facing, the drinking area is opposite the bar, this area is carpeted and had comfy bucket chairs and tables, there was a TV showing BBC football score updates, the left side it set out for diners.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bass which went down well, the other beer was GK Abbot.
The pub was fairly busy on my late Saturday afternoon visit with drinkers.
Background music was playing,i found this to be quite a comfortable pub to have a drink in.
