Attractive 16th century pub slightly marred by a large marquee tent at the front, a hangover from covid. Inside though you can tell the pub is very much food led with two areas either side of the central bar area set for dining , leaving a couple of tables and bar stools for drinking purposes. It still has the feel of an old pub with oak beams, wooden, and some carpeted floors as well as lead lined windows. Four handpumps with three beers, Hogs Back TEA and O'Hoggerty plus Tilford Punchbowl, going by the few pumpclips suspended above the bar and mounted on the wall at the back, (coming next?)the beer philosophy apears to be exclusively Locale. A pub Iv'e wanted to call into on many occassions in passing, having now done so unlikely to stop again.

Had lunch today at this pleasant country pub opposite a cricket green, not that far from the A3. The inside is traditional and slightly bigger than it looks from the outside, with a three room main area, and I think a function room upstairs. Outside, there are tables both in front and to the side, and a children's play area to the rear. Had a decent ale from one of the four hand pumps. Pretty good choice and delicious food on the menu, though quite expensive. This pub is very 'gastro', but not exclusively so, and I'd happily drop in again for a pint if I was passing.

Went in with a group of friends, and made it clear we wanted to eat. The barmaid nodded, and took the price of a round of drinks *before* telling us the kitchen was closed.
Won't be going back.
