Iain Manley had some fun with his review "in a forest adjoining a river". The clue is in the address 3 Bourne Grove. for iain's benefit a bourne is a brook or small stream and a grove is a small wood or orchard. The trees you see in the picture are what's left of the grove and belong to the gardens of the neighbouring houses. Nice pub mind but the magic's in iain's prose.

I'm very biased as I worked at The Spotted Cow for just under a year, but I found the place magical. It's in the middle of a forest, adjoining a river, has great local, good beer and better food. You can't ask for much more in a country pub.
