A backstreet pub which proved to be surprisingly large and festooned with flags. Inside it is an extended C-shape, with a long narrow bar running right across, a pool room at one end and a dark if fair-sized function area at the other. Furniture includes a lot of high tables but is otherwise fairly traditional; decor is similar if a little run down. Very much a locals pub with sports TVs, pool competitions, live music etc. An interesting touch is a clump of phone chargers for customer use. Still problems with the ale: just Tribute and Doom Bar on pump with the former off.

Popped in yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. A nice refit, which has opened up a bit more space than previously and a little brighter too. Accompanied by two handpulls, Courage Best and Abbot (though disappointingly the Best was cold and the Abbot clip was turned). The inhabitants are the same as usual, not necessarily the most welcoming bunch at first but there's a lot less of the 'deathly silence descending' when an unknown walks in compared to a lot other pubs in the North Surrey area. Said clientèle are mainly old men and the gentrified builders who appear to inhabit that part of Egham, living off the proceeds of either doing up or renting out of student houses. It's child-friendly (a few nippers zooming about yesterday evening) and has SKY Sports on widescreen.

If they can get the ale on the straight and narrow, this could be promising.
