It is probably not coincidental that the Station Hotel is a small hotel opposite the station. Thoroughly refurbished, it is not unpleasant but is fairly featureless, with modern décor and furnishings running through from the bar at one end to the dining area at the other. There is also a garden bar signed downstairs but it was not open at time of visit. The doubled pair of handpumps should have offered GK IPA and a house badged beer but both were sadly off. Handy for the station, and including a useful train departure screen, but otherwise not up to much.

Opposite the main railway station at the southern end of the town centre and beside the river. A long cream stuccoed building although one end is a companion Indian restaurant. One U shaped room with U shaped bar counter, three handpumps with dull Adnams Broadside, Woodfordes Wherry and an unused pump. Another pump on the back face of the bar was also unused. The standard kegs make an appearance on several T Bars. One end of the panelled wall room is taken up by a pool table, the rest has a mix of seating with tables and there is a big screen, the usual machines and a juke box, most of the space is available for vertical drinking. Friendly staff and customers although they were working (and unworking) men rather than the commuters you might expect. A dog friendly pub. It shuts early during the week and looks to be quite lively at weekends.
