I found this much as the previous reviewer of five years ago, with a similar reaction. This is a beautiful, iconic building and it is disappointing to find it housing a low quality booze den like this. Loud music, a stripped back interior, low quality drinks and a group of customers whose behaviour I wouldn't have been surprised to learn was influenced by more than just alcohol. The solitary hand pump dispensed the most below-standard beer that I had on a day when I visited almost a dozen pubs in Burton. And that wasn't because it was a poor beer (it was Pedigree), it was because it hadn't been kept properly.

A glorious, Grade II listed, Charrington's exterior obviously built as the tap for their Burton brewery which was behind the pub, this would have been a showcase pub designed to show the company in the best light. How sad that it now has a stripped interior with a dispiriting range of mediocre kegs - Carling, Carlsberg, Guinness et al - we've seen them all too many times. There's a pool table in the back, constant music, big screens - all in all a bit of a come down. The brave brewers of Burton are commemorated on the nearby war memorial, God knows what they'd think about the beers on sale nearby now.

Right next door to the college. This pub has had many guises over the years, and has been shut down quite a few times too. At the moment, its a comfy boozer with prices that aren't a strain on a students budget.
