The Queen's Hotel is an original hotel and pub that was built by the John Smith's Brewery. JDW must surely have this earmarked for one of their hotels as the upper floor seems to be completely unused (no upstairs toilets).
Inside it's a large roughly L shaped room with a walled side patio that had some astroturf. The whole place had lots of empty space on my Friday afternoon visit. It all seemed far too large for somewhere the size of Maltby.
The ten hand pumps on the bar also had a poor choice for a place this size with one unused, one available soon then Bradfield Farmers Stout, Ruddles, Elland Beyond the Pale and Moorhouse Pride of Pendle all doubled up. I went for the Farmers Stout (£2.15) which was in good nick.
This one is GBG 2017 listed but overall I found it disappointing.

New Spoons in an impressive converted hotel building. Modern inside, kitted out more like a Lloyds No 1. Spilt half lengthways, to left is the bar area with black slate flooring and tiling. Unusually, part of the back of the bar is against a row of large windows, making for a pleasant light and airy feel. Unusual design feature of the bar is that the lower part of bar the front is backlit in a polished amber style. The area to the right is carpeted with central banquette seating and nice window seating further over. Basic and grim smoking area, though I think you could use some of the grassed area out the front door. Stylized local personality profiles on the walls as well as a modern art sculpture of Fred Trueman bowling a ball in the entrance foyer. A decent ale selection at the bar; Revisionist Peated (good nick), Provenance Bruges, Everards Yakima, Acorn Yorkshire Pride and served by a friendly mature barmaid. All-in-all it’s pretty good here, actually.
