A pub of 2 halves with a GBG entry. It’s an early 19th pub which would once have been a village local but has now been absorbed into the suburbs, losing something in the process. There is a minimal amount of parking at the front, but this is shared with benches and tables, and it’s easy to get blocked in. There is a paved garden at the back with covered seating. The right half is a restaurant, the left a smaller bar with various seating arrangements. Both areas have open fires and old wooden floors. The atmosphere was friendly, though possibly a bit cliquey, while the staff were welcoming enough. There was 1960s music on the sound system. Midford Cider was on hand pump, along with Otter Ale and Tribute, both ales in perfect condition. It’s probably a decent local, and it’s worth seeking out for its beer quality, though the range could be better.

The Cross Keys is a family run 18th century ale house and restaurant which specialises in locally sourced, freshly prepared food in a traditional pub atmosphere.

We have two open fires and a great selection of daily deals including 241 on all our specials between 6pm and 7pm, a selection of malt whiskeys on which you can double up for £5, and our wine of the month deal which changes weekly. We also host a range of local ales and ciders, and are Cask Mark approved.

We are participants of the Tastecard (http://www.tastecard.co.uk/trial/web?gclid=CIvRnufLi64CFUYLtAodE1dW5g) initiative (please mention when booking) and of the Telegraph ‘Hi-Life’ club (http://diningclub.subscriber.telegraph.co.uk/Default.aspx), both of which mean you can enjoy our fantastic menu as 241*.

The Cross Keys won Bronze in the 2011 Bath in Bloom competition which is thanks to the hard work of one of our locals who works to make the outside of the pub as beautiful as the inside! We have a large family garden around the back which is the perfect place to lounge in the Spring and Summer, with a swing set and ample extra seating.

B&NES awarded our establishment 5 stars in November 2011 for Food Hygiene (http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/business/cross-keys-inn-public-house-bath-27880.html), and we receive a number of great reviews on sites such as This is Bath (http://www.thisisbath.co.uk/pubs-and-bars/pubs/cross-keys-inn/business-8220069-detail/business.html) on a regular basis. We encourage all our customers to share their experiences with us through a variety of platforms including our in house comment cards, and hope you will use our new social media sites as a forum for feedback.

In addition to our numerous acclamations for our food and drink we are active participants in the local community and raise funds for local youth sports teams including the Combe Down Cricket and Rugby clubs. In the past we have also raised funds for Dorothy House. Our weekly Sunday quiz is hosted with all proceeds going to our chosen charities and we also host a variety of events throughout the year including a family fun day to raise money for the local community.

Clive Prescott, your co-host, is a Fellow member of the British Institute of Innkeepers (BII) and a member of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). Clive has owned and managed several public houses over his long career. His wealth of experience is clearly demonstrated within the Cross Keys with a fantastic team of friendly staff with great levels of customer service, a quality which is consistently rated highly by our customers.

We are only 15 minutes from Bath City Centre and are on a direct bus route. We also have ample parking outside.
