A handsome 1930s pub which, at the time of my visit had a notice on the door to the left saying "darts players only" as a match was taking place, while on the right there were loads of pink balloons and lots of women: a baby shower, apparently. There was just enough space for me in a corner beside the bar, to which I retreated after obtaining a half of Theakstons Lightfoot, the only real ale on. Not by any means a favourite beer style for me, and I also have my doubts about the brewery, but this one was well kept and went down well. (Camra's WhatPub mentions a discount for members, and three beers on the bar, but there was no evidence for this and the write-up seems to be inaccurate in other respects too.) The landlord was friendly and busy - I wonder what it's like here on a normal Saturday? Or perhaps this was a normal Saturday...

Old Boots left this review about The Wheatsheaf

A biggish, two bar pub with the lounge sub-divided into standing, sitting, carvery/dining areas and there's a separate public bar with a raised area at one end. The beer is four changing guests and these were all in good nick, Cumberland Ale, Doombar, Betty Stoggs and Dukeries on this occasion, the pump clips on the bar back had some more interesting choices. The pub is listed in the 2015 GBG. The usual national kegs also appear. It has a 1930s looking exterior but the inside is modern with a mix of furnishings to suit all tastes. Upstairs is a function room with an all-keg choice.
