E TA left this review about Royal Oak

An 18th Century roadside inn, originally a cider house, which has been extended a fair bit on one side on the ground floor only. There is a patch of land opposite which has been converted into a car park, while an adjoining patch of scrubland is in the process of being converted into a garden. There are two old bars inside which have now been conjoined. These have old flag floors and a traditional pub feel, with a large woodburner one end, exposed timbers and a wooden bar counter in the middle. There is a gaming machine which was thankfully mute. At the other end, the dividing wall, originally the outside wall, has been knocked through, leaving the chimney breast, to allow access to the adjacent extensions which at present comprise a recently-converted lounge area and a dining room. There is an aspiration to extend further into the annexes to form a function room. Ales on draft were Lest We Forget and Bath Prophecy, plus Taunton Cider. There was also the usual megakeg bank, supplemented by an Estrella pump. Meals are served on Friday and Saturday evenings, plus Sunday lunch. Unimposing from outside, it feels much larger inside and is worth stopping for a pint if passing due to its welcoming atmosphere and decent beer.
