Staff had gone to good lengths to celebrate Halloween in this country pub situated on a busy crossroads. The bar staff were dressed up and even the music being played was related to Halloween.
Entering from the car park, you pass through an outdoor drinking area, before entering the first indoor area, where all beers and ciders are listed on blackboards. Most ales and ciders are then dispensed from the tap room, on the road side of the pub.
Three real ales were on - Wychwood Hobgoblin, Hanlon's Yellow Hammer & Pitchfork Beetlejuice. Real ciders were Lilley's Mango Cider, Harry's Dry, Rich's Medium & Heck's Browns Apple & Kingston Black.
The interior was certainly not what I was expecting from a village pub and made a refreshing change. Certainly a pub I wouldn't mind returning to one day.

A popular village pub with an excellent reputation – well deserved – for its ales. The frontage is an 18th Century stone facade, behind which is a renovated house with an irregular layout consisting of 2 bar areas, a medium sized snug and a modern conservatory annex which serves as a dining area and function room. At the rear is a rough car park with plenty of space, and a field at the back for overflow paring and camping. Between the pub and car park is a small, tidy garden with wooden benches and tables. There is a lot of clutter lying around, but somehow it doesn't seem out of place. The interior is Spartan – stone floors, wooden tables and few wall decorations, though a minimum level of comfort is provided by thinly padded wooden benches, and there is an incongruous piano in one of the bar areas. There are two bar counters with keg offerings including Pauliner Pils, Bristol Independence, Bibble's Wild beer and a milk stout, but the real treasure here is the tap room from which gravity dispensed ale and cider are brought – 4 ciders, plus Kryzone's Al Key, Swindon's North Wall, Notts's Munich Helles and Oakham's Citra. A 'coming soon' sign advertised Oakham's JHB and Notts's Excitra. The beers were, as usual for this pub, in first class condition, meriting its GBG entry. The staff are friendly and welcoming, displaying only minimum levels of good-natured sarcasm, while the locals are well behaved. The food is well-cooked, simple pub grub, with a few twists, filling and good value for money. Dog biscuits are available on the bar, and these were easily accessible as the cat mentioned on the sign outside was not in evidence. I am always happy to drop in here when passing, and I've never been disappointed.

A fab place to go to drink good drink and have real tasty food. The staff were so lovely and welcoming and its just such a nice place with their wooden tables and relaxing garden.
