Much of the front of this pub now has a covered tented area, which is presumably to create more seating space with current Covid restrictions. But this has come at the expense of parking spaces and makes the inverted pub name a little less conspicuous.

Inside is fairly small with only a handful of 5 or 6 tables, despite toilets also being located outside. Service wasn't as friendly as hoped. The lady behind the bar seemed happier carving a pumpkin.

Both real ales were from the local Fine Tuned brewery. They were Pitch Perfect & Sunshine Reggae. The cider was Thatcher's Cheddar Valley.

Locals seemed friendly. This is certainly a pub of some character and service apart, I quite enjoyed my visit.

A wonderful Victorian red-brick village pub which offers many things to many people. The single Z-shaped bar is an obvious knock-through, but it is eccentric, atmospheric and homely. The floor is tiled with parquet where the hall originally was, there is a coat rack with a horse’s bridle hanging on it, various dog artefacts lying around and two small dogs to greet you on arrival and a piano waiting to be played. They host open mic nights and live music, while they are equally adept at welcoming walkers and motorcyclists. Smokers are catered for by a small shelter at one side. The inverted inn sign is a bit naff, there is an anachronous brick fireplace in the bar, but few other irritations. Food is basic and freshly cooked and the ales are excellent – there are no handpumps, just 4 barrels behind the bar gravity-dispensing Yeovil Summerset, Naylor’s Autumn Ale and Cheddar Valley cider. This is the sort of place I’d like as my local, and I’m sure I’ll be back before long.
