A very smart hotel right on the river at the lower end of Ludlow. Several adjoining rooms, most with great views of the river below and the incumbant wildlife. Very friendly and chatty staff and a good selection of 3 local ales. We tried two of them and they were very well kept. We were staying at The Cliffe at Dinham, which was very good, but I think next time we'd stay here.

I’ve been visiting Ludlow (strictly this is in Ludford) all my life and despite having photographed all the town’s pubs, this was my first-ever visit to one, originally the Red Lion, primarily in search of a meal and one available after lunchtime on a Sunday, a nigh on impossible task in the countryside.
Upon parking up one’s slab in the car park, you enter into what is essentially a rather posh country hotel-cum-restaurant, with Reception just past the entrance, where thereafter, one is led into a plush up-to-the-minute dining room with modern boarded floor, mid-grey or avian-themed wallpaper colour scheme, a few knickknacks such as bottles with plate glass windows looking out over the Teme, ducks on show, before settling down for the evening at a pre-laid table, with excellent fish and chips (£15.50) and a lovely panna cotta with poached pear pudding (£7.00), wobbling voluptuously, capturing the attention of my lustful gaze. Customers were a mixed though thoroughly genteel bunch, contributing to a car park which resembled a BMW dealership.
I’d managed a sneaky peek at the small, trendified bar on the way to our table (with just two young drinkers), espying an unused pump, Ludlow Gold, Wye Valley IPA and Hobsons Bitter in great shape, the whole ensemble served by friendly staff.
With very good food and a spectacular view, this is a great place to eat and I couldn’t fault the condition of my pint, but this is really now more of a restaurant than pub, where I would stay for a half before embarking on a crawl of the town’s other hostelries, but wouldn’t stay for anything other than food.

The layout here comprised of a moderate sized bar area on two levels just on the left of the entrance. The right hand side room was mainly set out for dining and all the main windows along the side over looked the River Teme, plus there was a large roof terrace area. Five handpumps in the main bar serving Ludlow Gold, Woods Take 5, Wye Valley HPA, Butty Bach and Hobsons Best. We went for the Woods Take 5, which was in excellent condition. The staff and locals were all friendly and welcoming. Well worth a visit.
