The only pub in this twee Oxfordshire village betwixt Wallingford and Watlington (and right next to RAF Benson) which has both a duck pond and cress beds lining its High Street. The two Bay windows either side of the entrance suggest it may have had previous internal division, but it's smallish open plan within, bare-boarded with bar to the rear. Still contains the gimmickish paraphernalia Quinno noted back in 2017 (a full-sized, wall-mounted bull's head with one horn, anyone?) and you're not short of places to park your hips either outside or in, with tables out front, plenty of seating options within, a patio to the left of the pub and out back as well as the raised garden as stated below which includes children's climbing apparatus and covered areas for the Great British summer. GK IPA, TT Landlord and St Austell Tribute with a fourth stump unguarded. The Tribute was decent enough and £4.50 for a pint's worth. Standard-ish pub grub menu spotted but a fair few in on a Saturday early afternoon, so something being done right here.

Greene King village pub. An odd place inside with a faux-rustica feel but also a general feeling of it trying too hard to be whacky (horse saddle seats by the bar, that sort of thing). Unusable dart board spotted. On our mid Sunday afternoon visit the place was food-heavy and very child-friendly. Elevated rear grassed garden. Three ales on; one GK beer, Tim Taylor Landlord and an almost fizzy yet musty tasting St Austell Tribute. I really didn’t really get on with this one at all.

Cara Chapman left this review about The Shepherds Hut

The Shepherds Hut is a real gem! The staff are wonderfully friendly and we are always made to feel welcome. There's a lovely atmosphere and Nigel and Jean's refurb has really given it a new lease of life, I almost can't remember what it was like before! As for the food, what can I say? Dan and Dom are wonderfully enthusiastic, keeping traditional things on the menu but also adding some new twists. The homemade scotch eggs and homemade crisps are delicious and the pork & black pudding burger is a reaaly nice twist on a classic. My favourite has to be the fish & chips with lovely crispy batter, homemade chips, pea puree and homemade tartare sauce. In fact, you'll be hard pushed to find anything which isn't homemade (right down to the burger buns) and much of the food is locally sourced. We are very lucky to have it on our doorstep, it's definitely worth a visit!
