Originally the Red Lion, the name change reflects the pub’s acquisition by the small Jacob’s & Field chain.
The previous reviews apply to this aged meets slightly quirky, hipster establishment. I didn’t have any problems with staff or uncleared tables as I was the only customer indoors on my recent Wednesday evening visit, though I wasn’t sitting in the smart dining room to the rear. There’s much in the way of attractive old wood beams and exposed stonework and a low ceiling, but with some bare brick, a modern boarded floor and knickknacks that would look more at home in a pub in Shoreditch, where Dexys on the stereo would be loud, rather than sounding like it was coming from a tin can attached to a string. I didn’t notice the stuffed peacock, but perhaps it once graced the beer garden at the neighbouring Trout Inn.
The ale choice amounted to two unused pumps, Brakspear’s Oxford Gold or Gravity at £2.65 a half and dull, served by a friendly barmaid.
This isn’t a bad place; perhaps it picks up a bit towards the end of the week, but as things stand, I’d prefer to devote my time to the banging White Hart, five seconds' walk from here.

A pretty aged and attractive building, and a decent semblance of tradition within (even if there’s an element of forced upmarket quirkiness) with exposed brick, low ceilings, whitewashed wood slats and a plethora of blood red comfy seats. There are rooms either side of the bar via a small corridor. Star of the show needs finding – a fantastic rear garden with decking and fauna giving way to a mini farm with pigs, goats and chickens. Our Sunday visit meant bob-a-job staff on a go-slow, resulting in a lot of uncleared tables. Four ales from the Marstons stable plus Old Rosie cider available. My Brakspear Bitter was pretty mundane, unfortunately. If you like somewhere offbeat then this one is for you.

Komakino . left this review about Jacob's Inn

Part of the Jacobs chain which currently encompasses both a deli and a 'chop house' in Headington and another pub in Bicester, this has been transformed from the former Red Lion into a quirky, but neo-rustic pub / restaurant. Dimly-lit with hops hanging from overhead beams, the bar area is oblong-shaped, with the bar centre stage and slightly to the left from the front entrance. There's a dining area to the right and through a corridor dead ahead. To the left is a small, arched stone fireplace with a stuffed peacock on its mantelpiece and 'upcycled' seating. The bar fascia is a mix of wood and butchers' tiles and offered a pretty anodyne selection of Brakspear Bitter, Thwaites Lancaster Bomber Wychwood Hobgoblin and Jenning's Cumberland. There's a nice garden out to the right where they have free range chickens roaming. I like what they've done to the place, although others will hate the hipster vibe to it all, but the ale selection was a real let-down, so less marks than it could have got.
