The Pentrich signs mentioned in the last review are still in evidence here. But on this visit, there was no sign of any Pentrich beers.

I entered from the rather rough looking car park at the rear and found a small interior with a bar area at the street side of the pub, with another couple of areas for drinkers and diners on the car park side. There were no customers eating, with just a handful of locals occupying the bar area.

3 real ales were on - Castle Rock Elsie Mo, Dancing Duck Waitangi & Pheasantry Lincoln Tank Ale. The Lincoln Tank Ale wasn't really to my liking. But that wasn't any fault with the beer's conditioning.

Very much a pub for the locals, I think I would be happy to have this near me. A CAMRA discount is available too, now even for halves.

The name of Pentrich Breweing Company on the pub sign was a portent of things to come. Once inside this smartly refurbished roadside pub we were pleased to see six hand pumps, shared between the bar counters in two rooms. In fact only two of the beers were from Pentrich, others being from Welbeck Abbey, Thornbridge and finally two from Langwith. I went for the Langwith Jeanie's Mild - beers were priced at around £3 a pint. Most other customers were eating (it was lunchtime) but this was a comfortable pub to have a drink - apart from the dreadful background music; perhaps it's just me and most people would have found it perfectly tolerable. I wouldn't let that put me off calling in again if in the area.
