The oxford looks like a sixties built pub on the busy Highbury road. It is pretty ugly from the outside as many were from this period but the inside is much more inviting. You enter into a large open plan room with the bar bending round the left hand side. The inside while old fashioned is in a traditional style with carpets and wooden paneling as well as a beamed ceiling that is a nice touch and adds a bit of character. Like most pubs in the area the clientele seemed on the rougher side but no one was unpleasant and we were left to ourselves. The bar four hand pulls on either side but not a single one was clipped and after enquiring it seemed as though real ale has been absent from this pub for a long time. When queried on if there was a possibility of getting one on seeing as they had so many hand pulls and why don’t they give it a try I got the response that is was “a fosters pub” and there was no call for it!! No S**T Sherlock, you means to say no one is interested in drinking real ale in pub that offers no real ale…. I digress. The Guinness “had a problem” so the only other option was to suffer with John Smiths for £2.70 was cold and poor and while cheap in most places around is on the higher end of the price spectrum for Bullwell which tell a story of what other places flog it for. Overall another poor pub in the Bullwell/Basford area but at least it was comfy and there were some half =decent tunes blasting from the jukebox. If you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation where you end up in here just think that at least it’s not quite as scary as some off the pubs up the road. I probably won’t ever be back here.

The Oxford is an estate type pub but it is on the busy highbury road to the south of bulwell town centre.
Once inside there were two large rooms the lounge looked quite smart and comfortable and the bar had a pool table and was a bit more basic.
This pub used to be a Shipstones tied house and there were two real ales on the bar,the Shipstones bitter was a decent drink.
I thought this was a decent comfortable pub to have a few drinks in.
I think this pub is still open but i am not sure what beers are now on here.
