The Broad Oak is a standalone pub in the very nice area of Strelley Village. I have always heard good things about this place and decided to check it out on a trip around the area. From the outside things look very promising with the pub looking very nice with an old brick frontage and thatched style roof. Although a stones throw away from the busy main road this feels very much like the countryside with the amount of greenery with the area having a very calming ambiance compared with the hustle and bustle of the dingy streets of nearby Strelly and Bilborough. Upon entering I noticed that the pub was run by Greene king as their logo was above the pub sign my expectations suddenly worsened. Pleasantly however it looks to me like this is purely a Greene king owned with it being a very much independent pub in terms of decor and chain branding. The inside was very inviting with original low beamed ceilings and separate rooms partitioned off to give a cosy feel that I very much like. There is loads of seating in here and they do a roaring food trade/ There is also lots of front and back garden space with lots of tables that Is very popular in the summer time. I really liked the interior as it had not been ruined and it retained a very traditional feel but conservative modernisations obviously made over the years to keep it on good nick that I commend them on. The pub was pretty quiet on and Thursdays evening but I didn’t mind as much as getting in one of the smaller side rooms is quit comfy and atmospheric. On the downside the four hand pulls on the bar were all from Greene King aside from a guest of Nottingham brewery’s EPA. The barman did say though that there are usually two but that on that night one of the “guests” was Greene kings rugby beer Grubber. This left Speckled hen and a rebadged house beer. That aside the EPA was in superb condition as was my friend’s house butter but was on the pricier side for the area at £3.40 but at least they keep a really good pint which is more than can be said for most Greene king outlets. Overall a solid bub that on the bright side only shows its Greene king colures through its beer selection, everything else is left how it should be. This was aa ,lovely little find and one I will return to on a hot summers day as the surrounding village is lovely. Not quite an 8 but not far off and defiantly a cut above the rest of the pubs in nearby vicinity and the regular Greene King offerings.

The Broad Oak is an old looking country pub that is only a few minutes walk from the large west Nottingham estates.
Once inside this pub had a low beamed ceiling and country style seating making the pub seem quite cosy and comfortable,when i first went in this pub it was a Kimberley tied house and there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Kimberley bitter and this was a decent drink the other beer was Kimberley mild.
This is a really nice pub and it was worth the short walk.
