Yellow painted pub at right angles to the main road suggesting it’s an old building, the bar is accessed by a side door. A single bar runs from front to midway back, behind that to the left is a small dining room. The counter takes up the centre right hand wall providing a home for three pulls; Alnwick Gold, Titanic Plum Porter and Robinsons Dizzy Blonde as well as two mid height T-bars with usual suspects although Neck Oil and Brixton make an appearance in this Heineken-Star pub. Rough plastered walls with exposed brick fireplaces at each end, decor is mainly photos of the area. Very dog friendly.

A quirky pub this one both inside and out. The interior was imaginative with the decorative wood carvings, adorning the walls. We called on Friday noon, when the pub opens and only found one ale on the bar which was Adnams Southwold bitter which was ok. The manageress was friendly and chatty, which gave the pub a good atmosphere.

Have to say I liked the bright yellow exterior of this pub. At least you could not fail to find it on Northumberland Street, but I do understand I do not have to live with it on a daily basis.
The Sun Inn still retains a pub feel and despite a bit of a recent make over, which I guess happened at the same time it went yellow, it has some traditional touches. Quite small and dark inside, as there are only a couple of small windows and quite a low beamed ceiling, the main bar area has square-patterned carpet, a brick fireplace, some low lighting to overcome the dark space and is nautical themed with plenty of driftwood artefacts, including candleholders on the chunky wooden tables, clocks and a large sun above the fire.
Then there is a smaller dining area at the back for those who prefer to get away from the bustle of the bar.
Two real ales were available which were Adnams Bitter and Black Sheep Brewery Golden Sheep and the Golden Sheep was well kept. Nice pub, but the Red lion had it for me as the best pub on Alnmouth
