The Coal Heavers Arms was busy with a local crowd late doors on a recent midweek evening. The bar runs up the left wall facing banquette seating that sits under a television up the right. To the left is a dartboard and seating sits either side of a log burner. The bar supports eight hand pumps with four in operation that were drawing GK Old Speckled Hen and Deuchars alongside Woodforde’s Norfolk Nog and Parson James.

A back street local with a slightly run down feel to it. Eight hand pumps, serving mostly beers from the Milton brewery. Our visit was prolonged by the barman, apparently new to the pub, having difficulty getting the computerised till to work properly. Not his fault - he'd been left without adequate training or supervision - but at what turned out to be a busy time it was disappointing that someone didn't come to help him out. The beer was ok, but the landlord's evident preference for a quiet life over providing a good experience for his customers has led to a low mark from me.

Another visit to Peterborough, and this pub still serving good real ale. Family friendly pub with no music and TV. Quiet when we were there. Enjoyed Camerons White Rabbit and Milton Bombers Drop. They have a table with loads of games on, and it is family friendly.

The above was in April 2010, and we visited again this week hoping to catch some beers from their beer festival which ended on Sunday, but they only had the beers left on the bar now. There were a couple of Milton beers new to us, and we enjoyed Justinian and Nike.
