A well used village pub with a real community feel. The interior is quite traditional, the front door opens into a small lobby with a Jug and Bottle opening to the bar,a lounge to the right and the public bar to the left. The furniture is traditional and the main servery has lots of bar stools for the bar blocking regulars. Most people gather in this tap room and food is popular,so family groups are allowed in.Beyong the tap room is a dark back room with lots of neon and a tiny stage, lots of musical ephemira on the walls and strangely a flatscreen with the news on.Out the back is a magnificent beer garden with lots of interest. Some covered banquettes had a wood burner, others had flatscreens for sport if on terrestrial. Then there is a small building with comfy furnishings, maybe for hire before a large awning with ranks of tables, then more pub garden seating and some children's play equipment.
There is a memorial garden for departed regulars with brass name plates, burger and BBQ cooking shacks all of which meant this place must have thrived in Covid restriction times.
There are a lot of handpumps,7 I think but on my visit the offering was limited to GK Abbot,Digfield Chiff Chaff (NBSS 3.5) and Phipps IPA (NBSS 2.5,a dull malty brew). The barmaid apologised for the lack of range without giving any indication that more ale might be offered in future,so although I enjoyed my visit and appreciate a village pub that has survived,I can't score any higher.Walkable from the FOTRN mooring on the Nene.

OK it's my local so maybe I'm biased. But as to WHY it's my local - well that's the point.
This place has everything without having to take a taxi into town (at least £20 for the 10 mile trip). Thanks to the licencing law changes, there's no need for clubs as opening hours are somewhat flexible.
With well kept beers and an annual Spring bank holiday beer festival (over 36 real ales on order for this year) live music at least once a week and seriously good, well priced food (try the "dog's dinner" - you won't forget it in a hurry) why would I go any where else?
The Dukes claims to be "the pub at the heart of the village with the village at heart." It's not just marketing, they actually mean it and it shows.
