A gem of a pub in the small village of Trunch. A good range of Batemans beers on which were excellent. I sat outside as the weather was fine. I would happily call again.

What a breath of fresh air this pub is. It is cosy, friendly, superb real ales without being a rough house boozer. The interior has just been refurbed with a new carpet, freshly painted walls and a local artist has hung his paintings and prints for everyone to admire (or purchase). The pub has a homely feel about it which is so perfect for a village pub. Well reccomended for a visit.

General Staal left this review about The Crown

The Crown is a brick building that looks relatively modern in this quaint village. It has the appearance of an estate pub from the 1930s-1950s. However, it is very characterful and sits well in the village next to the church.

Inside, it is one room, divided into two by the presence of 'through' fire place at one end which created a very small 'quiet' area with two leather sofas in it. The rest of the room nestled around the bar. We were served by the landlady, who was very friendly. The clientele initially consisted of holidaymakers, but by about 8:00pm, they were replaced by mainly locals who sat drinking and chatting. This gave the place a homely buzz.

It looked newly decorated in cream, with a red carpet. It had local pictures and maps on the walls.

The food menu was a blackboard on the wall - steaks, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and salads. I had a steak which was perfect! Mrs Staal had a tuna jacket potato which she said she thoroughly enjoyed.

The Crown is a Bateman's pub. So, as well as the usual, it had Mann's Dark Mild and a number of real ales - Bateman's XXXB, Best, GHB, Summer Swallow and Marston's Long Hop. All of those that I tried were well-kept and delicious.

All in all, drinking and eating here was an excellent experience - highly recommended. Only one issue - the car park is tiny, you may need to find roadside parking in the village.
