An Edwardian country house transformed into a pub and restaurant business. It dominates Thurne Dyke, an offshoot of the River Thurne, where there is plenty of mooring for visiting boats. There is a small amount of parking at the front, and there is a pleasant garden with tables and benches, plus a children’s indoor play area adjacent which keeps the little darlings away from the grown-up area. Three large bars and a restaurant area were well decorated and comfortable, and dogs were almost encouraged – water and biscuits freely given. Food is very good, though some of the more gastro style dishes miss the mark a bit. The ale selection is good – two visits over 2 days saw us polish off pints of Woodford Wherry, Oakhams Citra and Inferno and South Coast IPA from the cask ale menu, plus, from the ‘craft’ menu, Redwell West Coast and Priorswell Pale Ale, Also available were Holderness Dark, Timmerman’s Strawberry Beer, Framework Fox Paw and Blackshore Stout. Well worth a visit, and I’d be happy to spend lots of time here.

Visited in pouring rain. The food was excellent, I had a steak which was beautiful. The menu was very varied and plenty of choice. An ideal boating stop in the dyke. I would suggest mooring on the left side as you approach the pub
