Not too bad - a historic pub which was done up a bit a few years ago but not over the top. Basic, traditional furniture and decor around the island bar. Two pool tables. Rear patio beer garden. A couple of pairs of handpumps, offering the regular Courage Best (£2.75) and Doom Bar as a guest. To let, but this place has good potential in the right hands.

The Swan has a central bar with three different drinking areas around it. There is a standard draught selection alongside San Miguel and two of the hand pumps were hooked up to Hobgoblin and Cottage Brewery’s SS Great Britain. There are two pool tables and Sky Sports is shown, although 24 hour news was being shown during my Tuesday afternoon visit. At the rear of the pub is a computerised poker table which isn’t something I come across everyday. There is a jukebox which was off and the projector screen was rolled up. There is a courtyard out the back that houses a few picnic tables.

This is not a bad pub, but I wouldn’t travel far to revisit.

Probably the second best pub in central Ashford.
The fact that the best is (probably) a Wetherspoons speaks volumes, but the Swan is OK. And is certainly better than the youth club over the road
