A Charles Wells pub, with beers from their new Brewpoint brewery. I spotted several of their keg beers (Foghorn, and a zero alcohol, and two or three others), and there would have been two cask beers if the Anchorman pumpclip hadn't been turned around. I went for Ruggers, their best bitter for the rugby union international series, which was OK but nothing to get excited about; the alternative was Adnams Ghost Ship. It was open mic night (lucky me!) and some of the performers seemed to have brought along some friends to cheer them on. This pub is known for having once been owned by Camra, but those days are long gone. Pop in for one if you're passing, but not one to divert to otherwise.

A busy local with decent beer and good, cheap food, well described by others, below. On this occasion the food choice was pizzas or ‘pots’ - basically pre-prepared dishes of various sorts. I opted for the pizza, which was excellent value, served with a smile by a pleasant young waitress. On ‘Fat Tuesdays’ (Mardis Grases?) they offer free puddings, though looking at the size of some of the customers, they don’t really need it. Ales on were Charlie Wells’s IPA, Out Out IPA and Directors, all in very good condition. Well worth a revisit and a definite for a crawl.

Old locals' pub with typically updated interior featuring much distressed wood and assorted old tat. There is a pizza oven occupying the rear and a separate room at the back. A courtyard garden is floored with artificial grass for some reason. Beers from Youngs/Wells with odd guests seemed to be well-kept though.
