The Royal was having a paint job when I visited on a recent midweek evening so the left-hand side of the pub was closed off and there was a strong smell of paint. Thankfully the open plan right-hand lounge was open, although I was the only customer for most of my visit. The bar on the rear wall faces standard seating, and banquettes run around the exterior walls. To the left is a large staircase, not sure where it leads up to. This is a Hydes pub so the two hand pumps were drawing their Original and Humdrum Town. Standard keg and San Miguel were also available. There was some background music playing and I didn’t spot any televisions, these may be in the closed public bar. The service was polite and the surroundings were comfortable so I see no reason why I wouldn’t pop back in for a pint if passing.

5 years on and this is still a very pleasant Hydes pub. Two rooms, the right hand one with menus on the tables, but not set for dining, the left hand one had a bunch of kids playing on the pool table. Very dog friendly as there were 3 in on my visit. Leather look settles around the outside of the dining room and all standard tables and chairs. I didn't try the food, but it was very reasonably priced. Friendly bar staff and locals add to the attractions. Only two of the handpumps in use, but my pint of Lowry was in very good nick. Loses a point for the feral kids, but overall I liked it.

A nice looking Hydes pub. 2 roomed with a nice lounge to the right. The room to the left houses a pool table. Well kept inside and the lounge was very comfortable. 4 handpumps on the bar in two banks of two. Hydes Original and 1868 on today. Overall its a nice pub and if I was in the area again I'd happily revisit.
