Tris C left this review about Escape

This place started life in the early 19th century as the Hare & Hounds and has undergone too many name changes to document, though the current incarnation is very new.
The interior is in effect brand new with no trace of the original pub remaining. The floor is modern pale wood, the walls are white with slate grey skirtings and ceiling from which hipster filament bulbs hang. The bar is marble topped and fronted with planks, illuminated from on high by hanging metal shaded lamps. There's a large picture window to the south side but the east side has bifold doors as windows which were partially open. Furniture is simple and restrained and the lavs were good. There's pretty much nothing in the way of décor and music played at an acceptable level; in all it's a bit plain though the atmosphere was enlivened by the young and trendy incomer customers.
There's a large selection of craft beer in bottles and cans in fridges behind the bar, the barman was friendly and knowledgeable, presiding over around six craft keg founts, serving me a very good pint of Wiper and True's New England Pale Ale for the new normal price of £5.00, extortionate but a lot cheaper than some.
This is probably a good place to drink craft beers and take advantage of the live music which is held in the basement bar; there's comedy nights and a weekly quiz too. It's a decent addition to the Stoke Newington (not Dalston) drinking scene, but I need something a bit more pubby to act as an incentive to making a return visit.

Steve C left this review about The Palatine

The previous guise of this place as Satchmo’s is still evident as the old sign is still up on the exterior wall, but this place is now called The Palatine. There are sofas and armchairs in amongst the more conventional seating and some mood music was playing in the background. One of the hand pumps on the bar is not used, but Redemptions Urban Dusk and Charles Wells Eagle IPA were both available from the other two pumps. There is also a selection of premium lagers and the Guinness was served well by the friendly barman.

The lighting is pretty dim and most of the tables supported a wax covered wine bottle complete with candle, I’m not a fan as I think they are a bit tacky, but this is my own opinion. I’m not sure that I’ll bother returning here as there are better pubs in the vicinity.
