The building used to be the lock keepers residence and control centre when Limehouse Lock was large enough to pass sizeable ships but was converted to a pub sometime in the 90's.Today it's main focus is on food but there is a pub atmosphere although the interior isn't memorable with lots of pine furniture and a light coloured floor. There's a flatscreen on mute, quite a few drinkers near the bar, while there is a seperate restaurant beyond the bar.To the front there is a fully covered conservatory type area with sliding glass windows which gives great views across the tidal Thames. This area will be popular with diners but not for there exclusive use.Outside by the entrance is a courtyard which winds partially around the building with more river views and close to the operational swing bridge.
Just one handpump with Fullers London Pride in decent shape but £4 pp.Keg options were limited while the menu is quite short but starters around £8 and mains rising from £15 it's not cheap. There is however a bar snack menu ,less wallet sapping.Surprisingly dog friendly and feeling quite boisterous, dare I suggest this is popular with chavs ?
No need for a revisit, despite the location.

After a walk of Limehouse and a visit to the foundry on the far side of the basin I was dragged in here against my better judgement.
Have to say it is worth it if you get a river side seat on a fine weather day like we did as it affords great views of the river and the opportunity to watch people mucking about on boats.
Actually the food menu, especially in the restaurant section, didn’t seem too outrageous given the location. But this isn’t really the type of establishment that I enjoy as most other tables had parties drinking champagne or expensive wine and this place attracts those moneyed types that feel it necessary to talk loud enough so that you are fully aware how much they paid for it.
For the record my half of Adnams Stout was quite passable once it had thawed out. But fortunately I had done a deal with the good lady before entering that we did this as a double with the nearby Grapes, so I knew I was on the promise of a decent pint…
I’ll rate it a 5 but that’s mainly for the view…

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Narrow

Very upmarket Gordon Ramsay restaurant and bar, with smart modern furniture and decor and relaxing background music. However, the best place is the (mostly covered) riverside terrace beside the entrance to Limehouse Basin. No real ale, with just Pride and two Adnams beers - Mosaic Pale Ale and Stout on this visit - available in keg form. Overall, if you can stand the prices, worth a visit once to take in the location and views.
