Blackthorn _ left this review about Kingfisher Hungry Horse
A good sized pub located amongst a small development including a mini-supermarket, it is part of Greene King’s Hungry Horse chain and thus there is something of an emphasis on food, although few people seemed to be participating on my recent mid-week visit. The clientele was almost entirely male, although this may perhaps have been on account of the football that was being screened.
The pub consists of one large open plan room, although divided in to separate bars either side of the entrance door. Décor throughout is the usual colourful but ultimately rather corporate style found in many of the group’s pubs with various paint colours used including salmon, aqua blue and green as well as inlaid yellow panels in the bar counter and both stripy and floral wallpapers. The bar to the left had a parquet wood floor and a couple of pool tables whilst the larger lounge to the right was carpeted and had a couple of plasma screens. A raised area at one end was separated off with some balustrade and there were a couple of comfy armchairs here.
The menu was extensive and no doubt identical to any other Hungry Horse pub. Main courses were mostly around the £5 - £6 mark and included all the usual pub staples such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Beef & Ale Pie, Fish & Chips, etc., as well as a number of steaks, sizzlers and burgers. Many of the dishes were available as a “giant plate” option. My Smoky Joe burger topped with smoked streaky bacon, smoky cheese and cowboy beans (whatever they are) was one of the more expensive options at £7.99 but was actually not bad at all, certainly better than I had been expecting.
Beers on tap were just the usual Greene King IPA and Old Speckled Hen. Hardy and Hanson’s Olde Trip was apparently coming soon. The solitary cider was Strongbow, unfortunately.
