Not a bad pub with plenty outside seating. We opted for the Proper Job which was a decent pint, good job as it cost £6.30!

Given this pub’s relative proximity to the Thames, the name is taken from Doggett’s Coat & Badge, the prize given to the winner of the eponymous race, the world’s oldest river race and dating from 1715.
Summed up well by Will, you hear this pub before you see it, due to the throng of young people seated outside beneath a substantial covered area. It’s more sedate inside, with a predictable contemporary interior which can be seen on their website and my one photo, where furniture is upholstered in hues reminiscent of a David Fincher film and where bottles containing berries feature on every table.
A limited cask lineup amounted to just London Original and Proper Job at £3.15 a half and on good form, delivered by unmemorable service.
This pub is nudging average and better than most in SW15, not that that’s saying much, but again the unwatched silent sport and ‘trendy sitting room’ interior don’t mark it out for a revisit; I suspect the ‘steam punk’ copper panelling to the bar front is modern.

Will Larter left this review about The Coat & Badge

Surrounded by a hedged garden just off the high street in Putney, and almost submerged in the shopping centre, this pub has a nominal connection with the famous rowing event. Quite an interesting and possibly old building, but it will have had so many changes over the years that what is seen now, especially inside, is largely the product of someone's imagination, and someone else's wallet. The bar counter, for example, looks old, with copper panelling aiding this impression, but it could equally have been installed yesterday. Two beers were on, though the environment suggested that gin, wine and craft beers were more frequently served. I swerved the St Austell Proper Job in favour of Youngs Original, which initially seemed in pretty good nick, but as I got to the bottom of my half I discovered a screwed up piece of plastic food covering, probably discarded randomly in the direction of a bin and ending up in my glass. I should have complained, but I didn't want my money back and I certainly didn't want another half of Youngs Ordinary. Also the barman had been friendly and welcoming, and I didn't want to spoil his day over what was likely not his fault. Sometimes I'm just too nice for my own good.
