This is an Essex Road hostelry with most customers probably drawn from the estate to the rear - it's very much a locals' pub.
It has recently undergone a substantial refurbishment, now much different from the original which had an illuminated Courage sign incorporated into the bar back when the bar was to the rear of the pub. All gone now, the pub has been opened out to provide space for two pool tables to the rear with the bar moved to the right-hand side. The floor is now modern pale bare boarded with much matching solid modern pale wood furniture, both high and low, with mushroom colour leatherette benches running along the windows. There's also some bare brick, at least one games machine and as before, loud music; I didn't spot any obvious décor.
The barmaid was friendly enough and served me with a half of Caledonian's Coast to Coast at £2.20 a half which is expensive for this area and especially a pub of this calibre.
There's no real ale.
This is by no stretch a great pub and I didn't feel entirely comfortable in here either, so it was down the hatch and off to pastures new.

Uninspiring corner pub with nothing in the way of beer selection. Won't be returning.

I was walking past here last Thursday evening and spotted an ‘under new management’ sign in the window so I decided to pop back in for another look.

The projector screen has been replaced by a large flat screen TV that was blasting out music videos even louder than I remember before, which I didn’t think possible. I decided to leave the front bar and have my pint in the rear section of the pub, but the music was so loud that I still couldn’t hear myself think.

It’s still very grim in here, but to be fair they are in the middle of decorating and a good lick of paint would do this high street pub the world of good.

The service was very friendly and I thought that the other customers were more hospitable than during my last visit, but I still wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of them.

Hopefully this pub will improve as the new owners settle in, but from what I saw I think that this will remain a pub that is off my radar.

The barmaid in this tired pub was very friendly and there is a projector screen for showing Sky Sports, but as there was no worthwhile sport being played the screen was off and very loud 90's music was being boomed around the pub. I did spot a dartboard case on the wall above a piano, but there were many tables on the oche so I doubt that there is an actual board.

There is only an uninspiring selection of standard draught products available and I didn't feel very welcome so I won't be returning.
