A quick visit for completeness’ sake as part of the Marlow crawl and I kind of wished we hadn’t. Things are starting to look a bit desperate here, only one ale available on our Friday afternoon visit - Rebellion IPA - which in fairness was in good shape. Got a bad feeling about the future of this place.

No change here since my 2013 visit, though this time I noted an upright piano in situ. Three pumps though only two on, Rebellion Smuggler (very good nick) and Wells Eagle IPA. Very few punters though despite England vs San Marino on the box, which makes me worry for its long-term future - use it or lose it, Marlow... Rated 7

Marlow’s sole Good Beer Guide entry most years, this traditional locals’ boozer is located in a residential area a good 15 minutes from the town centre (though the Reading-Marlow-Wycombe bus stops just up the road). The interior is opened-out and fairly non-descript in a retro 70’s manner. There’s a garden to the rear which apparently has a menagerie but it was bone-achingly cold on my visit so I didn’t contemplate exploring it. Features inside included a dart board, a large screen for sports and a pub dog. Three ales on the go, two from local brewery Rebellion (including an outsized pump clip for the IPA) plus a guest; Burton Bridge on this occasion. My beers were in good order, no complaints. Service was good and the atmosphere welcoming. A decent well-run local. Rated 7

The Duke of Cambridge is a short walk from Marlow town centre in a residential area up Oxford Road and a turning on the right. I would imagine the trade is mainly from locals and those who search it out due to its inclusion in several GBG’s (usually the only Marlow pub to be included).
It’s a solid enough well run single bar pub with usually three beers on. These tend to Rebellion IPA (look out for the biggest pump clip you are likely to come across, well you can’t actually miss it), and Mutiny from the local Marlow brewery and then the third is a rotating guest, which was unfortunately off when I visited last week.
As mentioned its internally one square space with the bar tucked away in the left hand corner, a dart board with oche in the right hand corner, burgundy coloured bench seating around two of the walls and additional tables and chairs in the middle of the pub.
Personally I don’t find the internal space too inviting because it is very open plan and there is nowhere you can sit without being in full view of everyone else in the pub. That’s why I tend to utilise the pleasant beer garden out the back, although this can be a bit of a strange experience at times as this can sometimes resemble a menagerie as there is a large aviary, Chicken coops and usually the multiple pub dogs.
