Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Pitcher and Piano

Housed in the former premises of the Scottish Widows' Fund and Life Assurance Society (whose name you can still find in several places on the exterior), this is a disappointingly bland and unimaginative conversion of a rather grand old building. The furniture and decor is standard Pitcher & Piano fare, with most seating in the main open area in front of the bar which gets very noisy when the offices close on a Thursday or Friday. However, there are also a couple of quieter semi-screened areas (although often reserved for groups), the rather hidden away Board Room) and a downstairs bar (not always open, and no real ale). Two handpumps, usually offering Pedigree and something else from the Marstons stable (Ringwood Boon Doggle on my latest visit). Also now does Shipyard Pale Ale, which is about the best of the keg beers.

The plaques shown opposite the pub refer to the City & South Railway which was the first deep level railway in the world which opened between Stockwell and King William Street in 1890
