A long narrow pub, refurbished in typical Taylor Walker style and now run by Greene King. The highly decorated and rather glittery interior is a bit spoilt by a massive sports TV screen at the rear, although there is quite a cosy area just behind it. The handpumps offered Abbot, IPA and Truman's Captain Lockwood with one out of use and beer condition was good.

A slightly chaotic Taylor Walker pub in a backstreet terrace. The single, irregular shaped bar has a poorly sprung wooden floor at the front which feels like it will collapse into the basement at any moment due to vibrations from, amongst other things, an over-excited glass washer, while behind that is more solid ground. The muzak was really annoying, while the naff wallpaper and gaming machines gave it the feel of a tacky estate pub. Five handpumps on the bar, but only two working. These were dispensing Belhaven Golden Ale and Truman’s Budburst, neither particularly well kept, both tasting more bland than usual. Staff were foreign unskilled labour, not very engaging. Food, including the so-called ‘specials’, was of the pre-cooked microwave type. There are better pubs nearby.

Yet another routine Taylor Walker affair, complete with high tables here, dining area there, rancid smell of chips and their infamous Big Ben burger on the menu. That there were all of half a dozen people, and no tourists, in on a summer Friday lunchtime suggests this pub need some serious work doing on it. Useful for pub crawls only.
