I was looking forward to visiting this pub given the previous reviews and indeed it looked very popular on approach. Unfortunately upon arrival a notice on the door informed me it was closed for a private function between three and six and how they apologised for any inconvenience, well the apology didn't help much I'll just have to try another time, I shall refrain from giving a poor mark on this occasion.

Located just a five minute stroll from Paddington station, this is an unusual wedge shaped pub, albeit with a rather bulbous curve to the wedge end rather than a sharp point. Fuller’s branding is prominent on the outside, and there is a very small courtyard area around the periphery should you wish to sit outside, which we ended up doing out of necessity rather than choice, as there was nowhere to sit inside on our Sunday afternoon visit.
Internally it’s quite elaborate, with wood strip on the floor, plasterwork mouldings on the ceiling and gold drape curtains at the large windows. Green flock wallpaper was on much of the walls, with another wall entirely covered in elaborately carved dark wood panelling, inset with arched mirrors etched in gold leaf. A fireplace had further ornate gold finish covering the mantlepiece, as well as a gold gilded mirror above. A second fireplace was a little more traditional with a dark wood mantelpiece, although even this had gold detailing on it, as well as a real fire blazing away which was nice touch. There were a number of old pictures adorning the walls, many of royalty, as well as a couple of small bookshelves. A small TV was up in one corner which felt a little out of place perhaps, but fortunately this was not in use on our visit. Seating was a mixture of regular tables and chairs, stools at the bar, and some fitted tan coloured bench seating on a couple of walls.
Beers on tap were ESB and London Pride from Fullers, along with the Original Small Beer’s Steam, Moor Steady Walker and Dark Star Hophead. The solitary cider meanwhile was a slightly disappointing Cornish Orchards. All in all, I thought this appeared quite an impressive pub, although it’s a shame that there wasn’t room to sit in and enjoy it.

The Victoria is an attractive corner pub with patio furniture along the outside path. Inside a central L-shaped bar serves curved banquette seating to the right and standard furniture to the left. The wooden flooring and ornate well-tended traditional décor make for a welcoming boozer. This is a Fullers pub so the six handpumps were drawing London Pride (x2) and ESB alongside Tiny Rebel’s 93 Til Infinity, Dark Star’s Hophead and Norcotts Cider. A premium and craft keg range was also available, as was food; the burger is priced at £15.25. There is an advertised dining room upstairs that I didn’t visit on this occasion. The pub was comfortably busy during my recent Friday afternoon visit, although the weather was fine so all of the outside seating was taken. I found the staff to be polite and the governor was extremely friendly. I look forward to visiting here again when I’m next in the area.
